The 2002 Maine Elk's 40 & Over Softball Tournament

On September 13, 14 & 15, The Millinocket Elks hosted the 23rd annual 40 & over softball. We had two teams from Millinocket and Sanford and single teams from Houlton, Ellsworth and Rockland. Friday night was Casino Night at the lodge, it was well attended and a great time to meet some old friends and make some new ones as well.

Saturday was " Let The Games Begin ". It was a beautiful day for softball. The games started at 8 in the morning and continued throughout the day. We saw some fantastic softball that included great defensive action along with some power hitting that still has some people amazed. At the end of the day we had the two teams from Millinocket still undefeated and the Rockland and Sanford A teams with one defeat each.

Saturday night started with a great meal put on by Tim "Boom Boom " Beaulieu and his crew in the kitchen. Thanks to everyone that helped Tim, It was a well done job by all.

13 Trees provided the entertainment for the dance. The music was very good and everyone had a good time, even the Chief put on some moves on the dance floor. After the Eleventh Hour Toast it was back to dancing. Along with the dance we had a pay per view fight downstairs which was a big hit.

Sunday came along and with it came the rain. Millinocket A & B got their game in with the A team coming out on top. Next Sanford A defeated Rockland and earned the right to play the Millinocket B team to see who would go against Millinocket A for the Championship.  After one and a half innings the game was called due to all the water on the field, making it dangerous for the players. It was declared a draw with Sanford A and Millinocket B being in a tie for second and Millinocket A being the Champions. Congratulations to Millinocket A and also to all of the teams for the well played games and the fun.

A very big THANK YOU to Ed Craig and all that helped plan and run this tournament. You did a fine job. We hope to see everyone in Rockland next year when they host the 24th annual Maine Elk's 40 & Over State Softball Tournament.
